Cox's Orange Pippin is regarded by the British as the finest flavored dessert apple. Medium size, conical fruit with rather dull finish; red stripes over thin, tough, smooth orange skin. Firm, tender, juicy, aromatic, yellow flesh. Distinctive flavor; mellow aftertaste and unsurpassed aroma. Excellent processing apple for desserts, pies, cooking, and cider. Keeps from October to January. Tree produces many branches which require thinning; early bearer. Blooms late, missing most frosts. Scab susceptible. Ripens from mid-September to mid-October.
