Description
Also called cherry birch, black birch or less frequently, mahogany birch. Sweet birch is a versatile plant that grows well in a variety of soils and sites. Additionally, it is renowned for its sap production, birch beer, and wintergreen flavor. Even more spectacular than its range of potential products is its fall color. Considered to be the most brilliant of the birches, it is a wonder that it is difficult to find in the nursery trade, but alas here we are. Birds, butterflies, and an assortment of other creatures depend on the various parts of this tree. Only plant it if you want to see a diversity of wildlife throughout the year. Definitely do not plant this if you hate birds or butterflies, you’ve been warned.
