Description
Frequently called Smooth Shadbush, Juneberry or most commonly, Allegheny Serviceberry. This small tree or large shrub will top out at 35′ but most will be around 15-25′ tall and wide depending on location. It has attractive white flowers in the spring whose sweet fragrance attracts even the sleepiest of pollinators. It prefers moist sandy loam in partial shade but can tolerate clay soils. Purple-black berries are borne in summer and beckon hungry critters like birds, insects, and mammals. The autumnal colors are vibrant and striking ranging from dark purplish then lightening to a clear and bright yellow.
