Welcome To Radical roots nursery
Plants coming soon!
Thank you, everyone, for being patient with us as we get our website launched! The shop will be up shortly to order for this Spring. Here’s what we have for bare-root plants:
A great selection of apples, pears, plums, and peaches. Includes diverse, heirloom varieties that are hardy enough for cold, Maine winters. If you’d like some personal recommendations from us, send us an email, and we’ll be happy to help you find what you need.
One of our favorite orchard companion plants!
Comfrey uses its deep taproot to bring up important minerals like potassium and calcium from the sub-soil and makes them available to fruit trees. Its lovely flowers provide nectar for pollinators, and it can be used as living mulch to suppress grass and add nutrients to the soil. Not to mention, it’s a wonderful medicinal for healing cuts and burns.
Nuts and Native Species
Enhance your landscape with some Northeast natives and nut trees.
We’ve got maple seedlings as well as a very limited supply of American chestnut, American hazelnut, butternut, and witch hazel. These are great long-term sources of food, beauty, habitat, shade, and medicine.
Stay tuned for more native species and shrubs in containers coming in Summer 2023.
Trees need love in the winter, too!
Annual pruning is important for structural shaping of trees, optimizing sunlight and air flow, managing tree size, removing deadwood, and stimulating fruit growth. Winter dormancy is the perfect time to prune, before your trees start growing again.
Keep your trees healthy and productive– schedule a day for us to come out and take care of your winter pruning for you.
Coming Summer 2023
This summer we’ll be selling fresh fruit for local purchase, as well as perennials in fabric root bags: elderberries, strawberries, and more!
